The Met joins forces with National UK police to take a stand against knife crime

This week UK police are deploying phase six of Operation Sceptre - the initiative using targeted activity to cut down on those carrying, using illegally, selling or importing knives.

Activity throughout the week will include weapon sweeps, intelligence led stop and search as well as proactive operations to tackle those wanted for knife related offences.

Evidence suggests that Operation Sceptre is having a real impact, with 58 fewer victims and over 1036 weapons recovered and removed from the streets of London since it began in 2015. Over 1900 people have been arrested, including 341 for possessing a knife or offensive weapon.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jim Stokley, said: "Too many families have been devastated by knife crime - one more person being stabbed is one more too many."

Advice is available to anyone who is involved in knife crime or concerned for someone who is: http://www.met.police.uk/StopKnifeCrime/

If you have information about anyone carrying or using knives please contact your local police or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
